Auckland Digital Twin

Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand. Aotearoa is made up of either two or three words, Aotea and roa or Ao tea and roa. Aotea could be the name of one of the canoes of the great migration, the great magellan cloud near the bright star Canopus in summer, a bird or even food; ao is a cloud, dawn, daytime, or world; tea white or clear, perhaps bright, while roa means long or tall.

The Auckland City model was utilised for 3D visualisations and animation for Kiwi Rail.

This 3D model has been generated using advanced aerial acquisition and photogrammetry techniques that extract accurate geometric information from aerial photographs. Extremely dense 3D point clouds are generated prior to being transformed into a fully-textured mesh object. To generate geographically accurate data, precise ground control points are integrated into our processing chain. Special care and quality control systems are implemented at all stages of the process.
